Services
The Right Track Project provides an initial assessment followed
by the referral to the appropriate support services to all of
the youth enrolled in our program. An Intake Coordinator meets
with each youth for an initial assessment. Assessments consist
of the following components:
- An inventory of descriptive characteristics, including history
of involvement with the legal system and any current mandated
requirements.
- An assessment of educational background, aptitude, progress,
and goals.
- A behavioral health screening.
- An in-depth vocational assessment.
A project vocational counselor will determine the vocational
background, interests, needs, and skills of participating youth.
The youth’s interest level and ability is then measured.
The results guide the respondent toward occupations and fields
of study most suited to their personal characteristics. Based
on the vocational assessment, the counselor and youth will develop
a plan which identifies the individual’s vocational goals
and the objectives required to meet these goals. This plan may
incorporate any or all of the following types of services:
- Situational Vocational Assessment – The
project vocational counselor arranges a volunteer situation
in a normal work setting similar to the individual’s
career goal. Skills, abilities, work behaviors, strengths,
and barriers are observed in a real work setting. The counselor
and client are able to better determine needed services and
desired employment direction.
- Job Seeking Skills Training – Youth
will be assisted in conducting job searches, preparing a resume,
completing employment applications, disclosing legal involvement,
and interviewing.
- Job Placement - Job placement encompasses
job development services, assistance in completing work applications
and arranging for interviews, on-site consultation with employers,
and/or orientation to the work place. Project counselors will
communicate regularly with the Pikes Peak Work Force Center,
IAB members, and other partners who are part of ADIS business
network.
- Job Coaching – Job coaching is a
particularly important variable leading to job stability. These
services are available to each program participant after employment.
Job coaching services include: site-specific skill training,
job site orientation, individual performance management and
coordination of tools and services necessary for employment
stability.
- Vocational Training – Training matched
to the employment needs of the community as well as the interests
of the youth will be offered by The Right Track Project in
the areas described below. All programs use validated training
methods. In addition, regular skill based evaluations are incorporated
into each training program.
